Market Value Movements: September 2-16, 2026 Report
Our biweekly market value check-in lands on two storylines this time: Atlético Madrid’s defensive line and a reshuffled Süper Lig value table after the September transfer window. We went back to the scout reports we published between September 2 and 16, pulled the current Transfermarkt records, and lined them up side by side. A few names climbed faster than expected. One dropped hard.
The method is simple. When we publish a scout report, we log the market value figure at that moment. A few weeks later we check the same profile again. That lets us tell you how our own estimate held up, and more importantly, where the player actually stands now. Five names had a clean enough before-and-after this cycle to make the cut below.
Climbers: Romero, Pubill and the kids coming through
Cristian Romero: already worth more than Atlético paid
In our Cristian Romero scout report, published September 15, we listed his value in a €35-45M range because sources disagreed, with the midpoint sitting around €40M. Transfermarkt’s current record now shows €50M. That’s roughly a 25% jump from the midpoint in about two weeks.
Romero arrived from Tottenham on August 15 for a fee reported at €33-40M. Taking the armband almost immediately and settling straight into the back line seems to have moved the needle before the usual adjustment period even finished. It’s an unusual case of a transfer fee getting overtaken by the market value within weeks rather than seasons.
Marc Pubill: versatility pays off
Our Marc Pubill scouting file (September 14) flagged an estimated €28M sourced from secondary data tied to Transfermarkt, and we noted at the time that the figure needed verifying. It’s now sitting at €35M on the live record, a jump of about 25%.
Pubill came in from Almería for a modest fee in the summer of 2025 and has made himself useful by covering both full-back and centre-back duty under Simeone. That kind of positional flexibility tends to be exactly what pushes a valuation up at a club that rotates as heavily as Atlético does.
Dani Martínez: from no number to a real one
When we wrote the Dani Martínez scout report on September 15, there was no reliable euro figure to cite. We said so plainly rather than inventing one, describing him as sitting in a “low-to-mid, still developing” band. Transfermarkt has since given the 22-year-old centre-back his first concrete valuation: €500K. It’s a small number, but getting listed at all is usually the market’s way of confirming a player has a real foothold in the first-team picture.
Besfort Zeneli: a name Süper Lig clubs should know
We covered Besfort Zeneli as a scouting suggestion for Süper Lig sides. He moved to Union Saint-Gilloise from Elfsborg for a reported €3.5M, and Transfermarkt’s live record now has him at €6M. We can’t pin the exact date of that revision, but it lines up with his run through Sweden’s World Cup play-off fixtures. Any Süper Lig club shopping for a box-to-box midfielder should have him on the shortlist.
Fallers: a rough stretch for Le Normand
Our Robin Le Normand scout report from September 15 cited a Transfermarkt range of €35-40M. Checking the live page today shows €20M, last updated back on June 5 — the drop predates our own report, but it’s sitting there in black and white on the profile. From the midpoint, that’s a fall of roughly 47%.
A few things are working against the 29-year-old Spaniard. Atlético keeps adding young centre-backs (Pubill, Romero, Martínez), and age is one of the clearer inputs into how these valuation models move. He arrived from Real Sociedad in 2024 for a considerable fee, so the drop reads less like a verdict on his season and more like the standard curve for a defender past 28.
Süper Lig: the window reshaped the value map
With the transfer window closing in the first days of September, the league’s most valuable XI looks very different. According to TGRT Haber’s September 1 roundup, Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray, €75M) still tops the list, but the new arrivals brought serious numbers with them: Mason Greenwood (Fenerbahçe, €55M), Rafael Leão (Galatasaray, €50M) and Dušan Vlahović (Beşiktaş, €35M) are among the names reshaping the table. Mohamed Salah’s move to Trabzonspor, valued at €22M, has been one of the league’s most talked-about stories.
On the domestic side, Barış Alper Yılmaz’s trajectory stands out: he started the season at €24M and has climbed to €30M through a string of reported Transfermarkt updates. Trabzonspor’s Christ Inao Oulai tells a similar story, arriving from Bastia for a modest fee and rising from €17M to €23M to become one of the league’s biggest gainers, a run he’s kept building on. Both cases suggest performances in national team fixtures are translating into valuation moves faster than they used to in Turkish football.
Not everyone is rising, of course. Players like Kerem Aktürkoğlu saw smaller dips over recent months, which reads more like normal age-and-rotation noise than anything alarming. We’ll keep an eye on those too.
One to watch even without a number yet
Our Jorge Domínguez Lituba scout report, published September 16, covers a 16-year-old centre-back who doesn’t have a reliable market value yet, which is entirely normal at that age. What is notable: the club inserted a €50M release clause into his contract this September, specifically to discourage interest from England. Clauses like that tend to turn into real valuations within a couple of seasons, so we’re keeping him on the list for next time.
The bigger picture
The pattern this cycle: Atlético’s young defenders (Romero, Pubill, Martínez) are gaining value quickly while a more senior teammate in Le Normand is paying the price of that same competition. In the Süper Lig, the transfer window imported serious value at the top of the table, and a couple of homegrown names are climbing for reasons that have less to do with transfers and more to do with performance on the pitch.
