Trabzonspor Eye Abdoulaye Doumbia: January Midfield Rumour
Quick answer: Trabzonspor are reported to be weighing a January 2027 move for Abdoulaye Doumbia, the 19-year-old Ivorian midfielder at Swedish side BK Häcken. Status: RUMOUR. Neither club has said anything officially. The story reached Turkish and African outlets on 27 October, attributed to unnamed “Swedish press”, with a reported fee of around €5 million.
Where the story stands
Turkish sites Haber61 and 61saat say Trabzonspor’s scouting department has followed Doumbia since the summer window, that talks have become more serious in recent weeks, and that January is the target. AfricaSoccer and Foot Africa carried the same claim. That looks like one report repeated in several languages, not several independent confirmations, so we keep the file at rumour level.
There is also a brake on the deal. According to Haber61, Häcken’s management said in September that they wanted to keep him and hoped to hold on to him for another year and a half to two years. His contract, per Häcken’s own announcement and Swedish Wikipedia, is a five-year deal running to 31 December 2030. Häcken are under no pressure to sell, so the leverage sits in Gothenburg.
Other clubs have been linked too. Swedish outlets reported earlier that FC Basel had made contact and that Häcken said they did not want to sell at that point. That is second-hand, undated and unconfirmed, but it suggests Trabzonspor would not be alone.
Scouting profile
| Born | 27 October 2007, Abidjan (19) |
| Height | 176 cm (Wikipedia) |
| Position | Central / defensive midfielder |
| Club | BK Häcken (No. 6) |
| Came through | ASEC Mimosas academy, Ivory Coast |
| Contract | Until 31 December 2030 |
| This season (as reported) | 23 league games, 2 goals, 3 assists |
Häcken announced the signing on 3 November 2025. Football director Martin Ericsson called him “a central midfielder and ball-winner with a big work capacity”. The club sees him first as a defensive midfielder who can also play higher up or at centre-back. No fee was published.
He made his competitive debut in the Swedish Cup on 22 February 2026 (2-1 vs IK Oddevold) and his Allsvenskan debut on 6 April. A May report said he had started five of Häcken’s first six league games and scored once. The 23-appearance figure comes from the Turkish and African coverage only, so treat it as reported, not verified. What it does suggest is a 19-year-old getting regular league minutes in his first professional season. Two goals and three assists is a modest return for a ball-winning, two-way midfielder, neither impressive nor worrying.
Scout’s note: we do not have match-level data on passing, ball recoveries or duels, so our read of his style rests on the club’s own description and the “two-way midfielder” label in the press. Next step is to watch his Allsvenskan games for first-pass quality after winning the ball and for how he carries it under pressure.
Fit with Trabzonspor
Reports say Trabzonspor took in about €50 million this summer from selling Augusto and Oulai (as reported, citing Fanatik), and spent part of it on Saviolo, Aral and Cabral, after earlier arrivals including Nwaiwu, Batagov and Pina. Midfield remains the area people talk about most.
Two of our earlier Turkish-language pieces cover the same part of the pitch: a fit analysis of Atakan Karazor (an experienced Turkish-passport 6) and the Eddy Doué file (a young box-to-box midfielder reportedly agreed in principle for January). Doumbia as a third name may mean the club is looking at midfield across several ages and profiles. That is our reading, not a club statement.
One limit: Doumbia and Doué are both foreign players, so which one arrives in January depends on a squad-registration plan the club has not made public. We cannot say who is first choice.
Tactical contribution
On paper he offers a ball-winner under 20 who covers space in transitions, which matches the club’s own description. In a fast Süper Lig that profile has value as a rotation option. At 176 cm and 19, though, aerial duels and physical contests may need an adjustment period. We will not turn that into a firm verdict before watching him live.
Money
- Fee Trabzonspor would pay: about €5m, reported by Swedish press, unconfirmed.
- Fee Häcken paid: not disclosed.
- Transfermarkt entry: could not be verified for this piece.
- Contract: to 31 December 2030.
€5m is in the range of recent Trabzonspor deals (reported figures: Nwaiwu €5.5m, Pina €3m). Whether Häcken settle for that on a 19-year-old with more than four years left is the open question.
How it compares
The closest comparison in our archive is Doué, same January window, also young, foreign and a midfielder. The difference is that Doué’s agreement in principle has been reported, while nothing similar exists for Doumbia yet. Adapting from Sweden’s Allsvenskan to a different league’s tempo can take time. That is a general observation, not a proven forecast for Doumbia.
