Transfer Rumor Report Card: September 2026
Every month we go back and check the transfer rumors we ourselves wrote about. This is the first edition of GegenSports’ monthly Rumor Report Card: we reopen every concrete transfer claim published on the site over the last five weeks and ask “what actually happened?” The point is simple — the only way to earn a reader’s trust is to show the misses alongside the hits. Anything we can’t confirm gets filed under “ONGOING,” not written up as certain.
Transfer journalism rarely grades its own homework. Dozens of names get linked to a club, a few land, most fade, and nobody circles back to say “we wrote that, here’s how it turned out.” This series is our attempt to do exactly that, every month, in public.

The Honest Hit Rate
Seven of the nine claims are still waiting on the January window, so we’re not scoring them as hits or misses today. Of the two that did resolve, one (Duodu) came true and one (Gedson Fernandes) was denied by the player’s own camp. That puts our hit rate among resolved claims at 50%. The sample is small and we’re not hiding that — the bigger story is that most of what we covered in September was long-horizon “January target” or “how foreign press frame this file” material rather than claims built to resolve within weeks.
Most Notable Swings This Month
Duodu signed three days after we wrote about it. The fastest, cleanest hit of the month — from “is he coming?” to a signed loan in 72 hours.
Two very different voices on Gedson Fernandes. Turkish outlets ran with “green light given” framing while the player’s agency flatly denied any winter move to Trabzonspor. It’s a reminder that club-side optimism and player-side statements don’t always align — we should have flagged that tension more clearly in our own piece.
Willock: the same promise, a third time. Beşiktaş chairman Serdal Adalı has now repeated “I’ll sign him in January” several times this month, most recently today. Consistent, but still a promise, not a contract — it stays in “ongoing.”
What We’re Taking Into October
The clearest lesson from this first scorecard: we need to be sharper about separating a genuine transfer claim from a hypothetical fit piece. Our “Gegen Fit” articles — asking whether Salah would suit Trabzonspor, or Gyökeres would suit Galatasaray — are deliberately excluded here because they never claimed a move was actually happening. But our “how foreign press cover this file” pieces (Veiga, Paixão, Oulaï, Gedson) do carry a real claim, and readers treat them as such. Going forward we’ll state the confidence level of each claim — official statement versus a single outlet’s leak — right in the opening line. We’ll also keep tracking these seven open files and report back on all of them in the next scorecard.
