Southeast Asian scouting usually chases the next teenager. This file is about the opposite case: a player who has already been the best in his league for years and whose real question is whether that level transfers anywhere else. Arif Aiman bin Mohd Hanapi was born in Kuantan on 4 May 2002, stands 1.71 m and plays as a winger for Johor Darul Ta'zim, where he wears the number ten.
His pathway is the Malaysian federation's showcase: the National Football Development Programme, then the Mokhtar Dahari Academy, then JDT III from 2018 before his first-team debut in 2020. From 2021 he was a fixture. The 2023 season was his statement year, 41 appearances and 24 goals across competitions, plus the FA Cup top-scorer award. In 2024-25 he returned 29 appearances and 16 goals. He won the FAM Most Valuable Player award four times in a row, in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024-25, before teammate Afiq Fazail took it at the Liga M Awards in August 2026. JDT won the 2025-26 Super League again; league data lists seven goals from him that season.
For Malaysia he debuted against Bahrain on 29 May 2021 and had reached 43 caps and 10 goals by 6 October 2026. He scored in the 1-0 win over Bangladesh on 25 September 2026 and was part of the side that beat Vietnam 2-0 for bronze at the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup in October.
What the profile tells me is a left-sided or inverted winger who lives on first-step acceleration, dribbling in tight corridors and a direct line to goal, which is why a club that stacks foreign attackers still built around a local number ten. What I cannot assess from the data is how he copes when the opposition is not retreating. JDT dominate possession domestically; the honest tests have been Asian club competition and national-team matches, where Malaysia often defend deeper.
At 24 the development window is closing and the export window is open. Squad lists show his JDT deal running to 2026, which puts the coming transfer periods in play. My recommendation is a targeted look for clubs in Japan, Korea or the Gulf that need a dribbler who already knows how to carry a club's expectations.
Scout tavsiyesi: Targeted scouting for an export move. Decision points: output in Asian club competition and national-team matches against deep blocks, his contract situation at JDT over the coming windows, and whether a Japanese, Korean or Gulf club needs a proven dribbler rather than a prospect.
