Indian football produces very few domestic attackers who score in the Indian Super League at a rate that makes clubs change their plans. Most of the goals in that league still come from foreign strikers, and a local winger is usually asked to run, cross and defend. Brison Fernandes is one of the rare exceptions, and his summer move from Goa to Chennai is the moment his file stops being a regional story.
The frame is documented. Brison Deuben Fernandes was born on 17 April 2001 in Loutolim, Goa. He came through Salgaocar's under-14 side and then spent five years in the FC Goa reserves and academy before his ISL debut on 26 February 2022, as a substitute against Mumbai City. His first ISL goal came on 3 November 2022 against Jamshedpur. Across five seasons with Goa he made 59 league appearances and scored 11 goals, or 83 appearances and 15 goals in all competitions.
The breakthrough was 2024-25. On 4 January 2025 he scored twice against Odisha and became the first domestic player to score consecutive braces in the ISL. The league named him its Emerging Player of the season. His trophy list with Goa is long for a squad player: the 2021 Durand Cup, the 2024 Bandodkar Trophy and the Super Cup in 2025 and again in 2025-26. He has one India U-23 cap from September 2023 and two senior caps since 2025.
On 10 July 2026 he signed a two-year contract with Chennaiyin. That is the key detail of the file. After five years in one academy system, he now has to become a starter in a new dressing room, and a two-year deal gives both sides an early exit.
On the pitch he is a left winger who can also play on the right, through the middle or as a second striker. His shots come off both feet, which makes him harder to show onto one side, and his dribbling in tight areas is above the domestic average. His movement into the box from the far side is the reason he scores; he arrives late and unmarked. The weaknesses are output and physicality. His 2025-26 league season with Goa was modest, and against stronger foreign full-backs he loses too many physical duels. His defensive work rate is honest but not organised.
The data points I am tracking are simple: whether Chennaiyin make him a starter rather than a rotation option, whether his goal rate returns to the 2024-25 level, and whether India keep calling him up. At twenty-five this is no longer a development file; it is a proof file.
