East African forwards rarely reach European shortlists before a North African club has already tested the price. Clement Mzize is a case where that test happened and the move still did not go through. Clement Francis Mzize was born in Muheza, Tanzania, on 7 January 2004, stands 1.83 m and plays as a centre-forward or left winger for Young Africans, where he wears number 24.
He is a Yanga product: academy from 2020 to 2022, then the first team. Wikipedia's table, updated to mid-2025, credits him with 33 goals in 78 league appearances. Tanzanian press put his 2024-25 Premier League return at 13 or 14 goals with three to five assists; the totals differ by source, so I treat the range as the fact.
The market moved. The Citizen reported advanced talks with Zamalek and later a bid of around one million US dollars from Esperance, withdrawn at the final stage. Yanga then extended his contract by one year, to 2027.
The problem is the knee. He had surgery after recurring knee pain, was ruled out for eight to ten weeks and missed AFCON 2025 with Tanzania, where he had 10 caps by mid-2025. A further procedure in South Africa at the end of February 2026 cost him most of the season. The Guardian (Tanzania) reported on 28 July 2026 that he was back in full training under new coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
My reading: a forward with real domestic output and genuine market interest, now in the most important stretch of his career. The next six months tell us whether the knee lets him be the same player.
Scout tavsiyesi: Monitor with a medical focus. Decision points: regular starts after the knee surgery, a return to double-figure league goals and CAF Champions League minutes. With the contract running to 2027, a buyer gains leverage from summer 2026-27 onward, but only if the knee holds.
