Deo Bassinga — full name Deogracias Bassinga — is one of the more well-travelled 21-year-olds on our Central African file. Born in August 2005, the Congo-Brazzaville forward has already passed through Diables Noirs at home, a spell in Gent's U23 setup in Belgium and Dila Gori in Georgia before landing at FUS Rabat in Morocco's Botola Pro this January, on a deal that runs to 2030. That is a lot of football for a player who has only just turned 21.
He is a genuine centre-forward rather than a wide convert: quick over the first five metres, willing to attack the near post and comfortable finishing on either foot. What stands out is his movement off the shoulder of the last defender — he times his runs well and does not drift offside cheaply. The move to a structured league like the Botola Pro should sharpen the parts of his game that Georgian and reserve-team football could not.
The development questions are the usual ones for a striker at this stage. His link play with his back to goal is still functional rather than clean, and he can go quiet for long stretches against deep blocks. At 1.80 m he will not win everything in the air, so his value has to come from movement and finishing, not from being a target man.
The frequent moves mean his market value has stayed modest, which is exactly what makes him worth tracking now rather than later. A Congolese forward settled in a competitive North African league on a long contract is the kind of low-cost, high-upside profile our Central and Southern Africa desk is built to flag early. The next twelve months at FUS Rabat will tell us how high the ceiling really is.
Scout tavsiyesi: Keep on the regional radar; a full season at FUS Rabat will define the ceiling.
