I first marked Gyamar Nikum's name when Mumbai City paid a reported transfer fee to bring an eighteen-year-old from Arunachal Pradesh via Rajasthan United in January 2023. That was a signal in itself: a top-flight club spent money on a teenager from a state that rarely appears on Indian scouting maps. He was born in Naharlagun on 26 October 2004, so he is now twenty-one, and he plays as a central midfielder.
The reason this file is open today is a change of status. Mumbai City announced on 1 October 2026 that they had mutually terminated his contract, and he now plays for Gokulam Kerala. A player who signs a long deal at eighteen and leaves at twenty-one is not a failure by default, but it forces the question every scout should ask: did the minutes never come, or did the level not hold?
What I see in a profile like his is a mobile, ball-carrying midfielder whose value lies in tenacity and willingness to play forward, which is how the club itself described him on signing. What I cannot yet claim is a settled position. Indian midfield roles shift between a deep pivot and a shuttling eight, and a player who has not had a long run in one slot is hard to grade at his best one. I will not invent numbers to hide that.
The move to a different league context is, in my view, the right test. Regular ninety-minute football, away trips, and a coach who builds around him will tell us more in one season than three years of squad rotation. If he becomes a starter who wins duels and progresses play, his market will reopen quickly, because Indian clubs always look for young domestic midfielders.
My plan is simple: watch his first block of league games for Gokulam, log how often he receives between the lines, and revisit this report in the January window.
Scout tavsiyesi: Active monitoring. Decision points: a regular starting role at Gokulam Kerala, duel and progression numbers across the first league block, and a re-evaluation in the January window.
