Every Sahel scouting cycle throws up a runner, and Lamine Camara is the one who kept running all the way into a Champions League midfield. Monaco paid Metz around 15 million euros for him in July 2024 and tied him to a five-year deal through June 2029. Eighteen months on, the fee already looks conservative.
Camara is a box-to-box eight in the purest sense. His game is built on volume: he covers ground between both penalty areas, arrives late into the opposition box and presses with genuine intent rather than for show. On the ball his first instinct is to carry, breaking lines with the dribble before he looks for the pass. In Ligue 1 and in Europe he has already shown he can do this against grown, physical midfields.
The limitation is physical rather than technical. At 1.74m he is not an aerial presence, and against the very best pivots his final-ball selection can still be rushed when the tempo spikes. He occasionally does a second man's running instead of holding the base, which leaves gaps a disciplined coach will want to iron out.
The profile is elite for his age: a senior Senegal international with close to 49 caps, a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations runner-up and a 2023 Africa U20 champion. Monaco hold the cards until 2029, but a player with this ceiling and this passport does not stay at a selling club forever. Top-five directors should already have the file open.
Scout tavsiyesi: Premium asset already priced accordingly; a genuine top-five target rather than a bargain.
