Australian football has been waiting for its next global attacker since the golden generation faded, and Nestory Irankunda remains the loudest answer the country has produced. Born 2006, developed at Adelaide United, signed by Bayern Munich as a teenager and now building senior minutes in England with Watford, his file is equal parts electricity and unfinished wiring.
The electricity first: Irankunda's ball-striking is genuinely rare. His right foot generates power and swerve from minimal backlift, whether from open play, cut-ins off the right wing or direct free kicks. Acceleration over ten metres breaks defensive lines on its own, and he attacks defenders with an appetite coaches cannot teach.
The wiring: decision-making remains streaky. He can force shots when the pass is better, and his pressing structure discipline comes and goes. The Bayern chapter showed both truths at once: elite environments rate the talent, and elite environments demand consistency he is still building.
For European sporting directors the question is timing. Watford-level minutes at 20 are exactly the right development pathway, and the A-League produces athletic profiles like his at a fraction of European prices. Oceania remains the most underpriced scouting region in world football; Irankunda is its export ceiling, and the next wave behind him deserves systematic coverage.
Scout tavsiyesi: Oceania is underpriced: cover the A-League wave behind Irankunda systematically.
